FRIBIS Summer School 2023 Part 3/3 – Microsimulation and Social Welfare Maximization

18. Juli 2023 @ 00:00 - 21. Juli 2023 @ 00:00 CEST

The FRIBIS Summer School 2023 “Empirical methods of UBI investigations” is divided into three parts, and FRIBIS is pleased to invite you to the third part: “Microsimulation and Social Welfare Maximization”. The first part will cover the topic of “How to Build a UBI Pilot“. The second part of this Summer School will cover the topic of “The Social Contract: a Behavioural Economics Approach with Lab Experiments“. This workshop aims at offering young researchers (MSc, PhD) or more advanced scientists yet beginners in static modelling a rare and extensive introduction to the development of static microsimulation models and welfare analysis. The whole process, from research questions to the analysis of outcomes, will be examined with a focus on both practice and theory. After an overview of basic concepts, participants in this 3–day workshop will start working on simple static models, simplified simulations and will be provide a link to welfare analysis. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to briefly discuss their own developments and plans. Although not the main emphasis of the workshop, the demonstrations and exercises will be based on the free toolbox EUROMOD, a well–established development and simulation platform for static microsimulation modelling. There is no need for prior knowledge of EUROMOD, which will be introduced from zero during the workshop. The summer school will be run by Prof. Ugo Colombino (University of Turin). See the provisional program for more information. Timing:The Summer School will start on Tuesday, 18th July, and will end on 20th July, lunch time. Organisation:Successful applicants will take part in the Summer School onsite at the University of Freiburg. Links to the software and literature will be sent out the week before the event. Information for potential applicantsCandidates to this event are expected to fill in the form below, which includes a short note of motivation describing to what extent they would benefit from the Summer School and their research background and interest, before May 22nd 2023. Participation is free of charge. The summer school is suitable for, and will indeed favour, early– stage researchers, policy makers and PhD students. Requirements for attending the Summer School are:− research interests in the topics of unconditional basic income, microsimulation modelling and welfare analyses:− some knowledge of and practice in – quantitative packages and modelling. Microsimulation, in particular, will be an asset. The Summer School will include short presentations by a selection of participants. Only a limited number of participants will be admitted in order to encourage interaction. Applications will be reviewed by FRIBIS and selected based on the respective motivation for attending the full course.
